Congrats1 Congratulations To All The Kids Who Were Born In The 60s 70s & 80s

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN in the ’60s ’70s & ’80s

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a tin and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitch-hiking .

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a van – loose – was always great fun.We drank water from the garden hosepipe and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cakes, white bread and real butter and drank pop with sugar in it,but we weren’t overweight because……WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!In the summer we would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem .

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no text messaging, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms……….WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We played with worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out any eyes.We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!

Local teams had try-outs and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it?!

  2. So true! At 12 i did 2 sunday morning paper rounds by myself! And i didnt die! Lol x

  3. I grew up in the countryside and there were no street lamps to tell me to go home! I had the moon and the dog to take me home from wandering the fields!

  4. I was born in 1975 and was weaned at 8 weeks, bottle fed and slept on my front, all this crap now a days and look at the difference with the dif generations lol

    • The Real Supermum says:

Gosh I know my nan used to put her babies out in the garden for the half the day in the pram no fear of babies being stolen in those days

  5. So true, things have changed so much – and not for the better…kids dont seem to be kids anymore. I remember having to be in when it got dark in the winter was horrible as i never had long playing out. And in the summer my mum always knew where i was even though i had no phone lol xx

  6. kayleigh summers says:

Love this ! very true. X

  7. back in the day I could walk in to my mates house, say hi to her mum and dad and go straight up to her room to see if she was coming the park which was half a mile away from home.

At 14 I could go out with my money from work (usually about £30) thinking I was rich tell my mum I was going to town miles away from home (25 min bus ride) and tell her I would be back by tea time and alls I go off her was yeah ok what ever

I could walk to the local shopping center a mile away from home to meet my best mate from school just to piss about and go shopping the normal stuff teenagers got up too

I got served with cigs at 14 and booze at 16 coz no one cared that you were underage then as the law was a little easier back then

my nans neighbours were reffered to as ‘aunt’ or ‘uncle’ even if they werent blood related it was just respectful

kids were scared of being smacked and the police because back then child abuse hadnt gone mental like it has now days

a slap round the ear was an acceptable punishment.

our mobile phones didnt get internet on them we were lucky to get snake on them

at 12 we were catching pokemon not STD’s lol

those were the days!! my god didnt we have life so easy back then I love being an 80′s pop princess baby :)

    • The Real Supermum says:

I also think life was much nicer back then ,,,,

      • Mummy_LaLa says:

It was, all the neighbors knew where you lived an looked out for you. Wish things could go back to how it was, I am sure a lot of other parents would much prefer it, as it was safer for us as well

  8. “@TheRealSupermum: Congratulations To All The Kids Who Were Born In The ’60s ’70s & ’80s http://t.co/pzkjANv5” oh so true!

  9. Thank you for sharing this post. I definitely think that us people who were born then had a less fortunate childhood, because we did not have all these toys to play with and we had to just make do with anything that was around us. However, I reckon we were more active and adventurous because we had to make the games up and explore rather than have it all handed to us on a plate.

    • Mummy_LaLa says:

We definitely had more fun back then, I actually think there was more to do back then as we had the whole world (in a sense lol) and all the time in the world to do what we wanted, we could play safely and parents didnt fear as much as we do now days about the kids being abducted, ran over or seriously hurt as those sort of things were very rare back in those days xx

  13. Jessica Markham says:

  14. Kay Myers says:

Very true, although I was born in the 90′s x

  15. Julia Bartlett says:

I did a paper round at 12 too and my best thing when I was a kid to do was make MUD pies and squash leafs together I try and make purfume sad wht the world has come too :(

  16. Love this post! Very true!! I can remember going to the park when I was younger until 8pm… Don’t think I’d like to do that now though.., cx

  17. Very true! But things have changed alot and i think the world just isnt as nice as it used to be. Like when my mum was young she played out in the street, went off with friends and everyone knew everyone and everyone was safe. I wouldnt dream of sending my son out to play, we live on an estate but everyone keeps themselves to themselves and i have no idea who even lives three doors down from me! So i wouldnt be happy sending my son out as i dont know who is around and wouldnt know for sure that he would be safe! Sad, but true.
