I was terrified of taking the dummy away from my darling little children, as without a dummy stuck in their mouths they became hard work.
Yes I was guilty of shoving it into heir little mouths when they whined or were tired and all too soon taking it away became a battle.
At the age of 3 Kaiden was far too big to be walking around with a dummy and he would even go as far as to hide one in his coat pocket before we left the house, as he knew not to take one out with him. I was embarrassed to have him out in public because of the dummy and it was only allowed in the house.
I think my own anxiety on getting rid of the dummy reflected upon both the children who were about to lose their precious item and they knew something was going to happen.
How To Take The Dummy Away
I explained that the dummy fairy needed to come and collect all the dummies from the bigger kids as the baby fairies no longer had any. That meant the Dummy Fairy was coming for theirs.
Their little eyes lit up at the thought of a pretty fairy coming to visit, so OK hold on, the fairy only comes when children are asleep.
We collected all the dummies in the house and placed them into a bag and then we hung the bag on the tree in our garden and waited.
They soon got bored of waiting and when they were not looking into the dustbin the bag went.
We had 2 nights of asking for their dummies, yes they cried, they kicked, they woke 2/3 times during the night sobbing but I remained firm yet calm and reminded them they were big and the little baby fairies needed them.
We are now dummy free and there has been no more talk of dummies.
How did you take away the dummy in your home?

Anonymous Blogging Has Its Uses

We have a tree in a nearby park where all the children from all the towns all aournd hang their dummies. The princess did that at 3½ and that was a great way to do it:) We look for it every time we to the park, she loves that. She’s now 7:) The little man never took that well to his dummie and when he was 9 months old we took it away. It took 4 nigths of crying and it was quite though but worth it. He’s happy with teddy:) he’s now 5!

i changed it so it was only for sleeping and then gave him warning that he had to lose them completely because ‘they are only meant for babies and youre a big boy now arent you?’ yes there were tears and tantrums but was needed. now i just need to do it for the younger one when its time ‘sigh’
we tried the dummy fairy with my eldest but it didnt work as the youngest still needed her dummies so used to pinch hers so we decided on a trip to blackpool that we would take them from them whilst on holiday as this would be enough to distract them from them and guess what it worked and theyve never even asked about them since
We had a visit from the dummy fairy when Kyran was 3. He left his dummies out on the table before bed. When he came down the next morning he had a small present (think it was a book) as a thank you
My eldest threw his in the bin n said im a big boy now mummy and never asked for it back I was very shocked x
Were still using the dummy atm, moll is 21/2 :/ i hate it!! Its started to make her teeth go funny but she refuses to give it up.. if anything shes becoming even more dependant on it
Think some tough love is being called for :/ xx
when i worked in greggs, a lady and her little boy came in and she let him swap the dummy for a cake of his choice (obviously she still paid) although i was left holding his dummy as they walked out lol x
I’d been trying for a while to get my 3 year old son of his dummy I tried the fairy’s coming to get it, tried saying his cousin needed one when he was born even tried telling him the dog chewed it. None of them worked and he would always find another dummy. So last month he had 3 dummy’s the dog got hold of one so that went to the bin then the other 2 he lost them somewhere around the house he asked many times for us to look we did twice but couldn’t find them so told him we’d try and find them. At this point he’d only have a dummy for bed and when he’d wanted comfort. He asked for 2 days for his dummy then didn’t ask for them again, few days later i found the 2 so they went straight to the bin he hasn’t bothered with a dummy he now uses his blanky which he’s had since birth for comfort and when he goes to bed

I told my little girl who is 2 and a half that santa was coming and he was going to take her dummies away because he needed them for the babies and she is not a baby any more. I said that santa will leave her lots of presents in place of the dummies. She accepted this and I took them away during the night on Christmas eve. We are 4 days in and so far so good, she has only asked for a dummy a few times and has accepted my explanation that she hasn’t got any anymore because santa has taken them but she has lots of presents. Think I miss it more than her! x
my eldest just stop taking them one day…even now he freaks out if his younger brother has one in…who is only 6 months old xx
my eldest was 18 months and i grew concerned of it crowning her teeth so we took them to she toyshop and traded them for a lovely new teddy bear to take to bed a oiglet she went mad for it took it to bed every night for about a week and then forgot all about it and hasnt had or mentioned a dummy since and my youngest only had one whilst teething and then gave it back just threw it around room and it got lost and that was the end of it no more dummys in my house xx
