Travelling with a young child can seem rather daunting, especially if your going to be alone, but there are preparations you can make to make the trip easier and more enjoyable for both of you.
Must Have Items
Baby wipes – without a doubt, so handy for everything
Air freshener – you have to change a dirty nappy on the back seat
Plenty of snacks and drinks.
Toys or books to entertain
A change of clothes
A favourite blanket
Time Your Trip
Can you take to the road at a time when your baby or young child usually takes a nap?
Make Stops
Try to make as many stops as you can, remember that sitting in a car seat for hours can become a huge issue to many young children, they get bored easily.
If your due to arrive at a certain time, then set off earlier to accommodate stops.
Change nappies while you stop, its not nice sitting in a soiled or wet nappy and can make your child miserable.
Have Fun
Take along a children’s CD to play some of your child’s favourite songs and sing along with them. Ask them to find the birds or how many cars can they count, keep them distracted. Take along some toys or books that your child can have in their car seat.
Cut The Cost
Service station prices are way over the top so be sure to take snacks and drinks with you. When you stop you will not need to be tempted to buy snacks.
Have we missed anything or have you any tips to add?

We take a portable dvd player with us but normally go by train x
is there a blog or does anyone have any tips about travelling abroad with young ones?x
Im normally quite lucky with auron , you put him in his carseat and he is a diamond
even if he doesnt fall asleep in the car he just sits there waiting to be taken out his seat when we reach our destination, never done a really long journey though , max of about 45 minutes
but he is quite good, hes good on the bus , never been on the train though x
Sidney is really good in the car. He has a toy which is on the back of my chair and he has a little steering wheel which goes through different songs and animals and animal noises so that keeps him entertained. He loves looking out the window pointing and asking what everything is and then will have a nap. We used to travel every weekend which was 200 miles so we got used to travelling and we have been on longer journeys for holidays. I find stopping and letting him stretch his legs in good and taking plenty of toys and juice and a first aid kit just in case. All these tips are great xx
Really good tips there for people who are not used to travelling with little ones x
I’m really lucky because all mine love the car…. I take writing pads and make the boys a tally chart with things to tick off when they see them like white cars, sheep, churches etc. Keeps them entertained for a while. And I always make a stop off at services if I’m travelling over an hour. X
I did 14 hours by coach with a 6 month old and all I can say is keep away from the persons hair who’s sat infront of you
agree with all of these, kiddie music and nurery rhyme cds are great too x
