Why do young girls dress inappropriately?

Matt and my friends partner took a walk to the local shop the other evening, upon their return they told us that they had just passed a group of young girls no older than 16 getting onto the bus to go into town, which of course is a normal day occurrence, but Matt was disgusted at the way these girls were dressed considering their young age, not to mention the fact that it was snowing.

He was more alarmed that the girls parents had dropped them off at the bus stop and were allowing their daughters to wear such inappropriate clothing. By the way they were dressed one could only assume they were heading off for a night on the town.

Wearing short dresses or skirts with killer heels both men could not help but do a double take. Why do young girls and women come to that feel the need to dress in such a way?

Thinking back to my teenage years dressing to impress was the main reason, the shorter the skirt, the more attention.

I have to admit now that I am older looking at the young girls these days I do feel some sense of alarm for them, men are men and most would have to look if not touch given the chance. Are these young girls who dress in such a provocative way putting themselves in danger?

While I agree any women should be able to wear what they choose, I would not feel too happy if my own girls were to leave the house looking the way these young girls did, with their skirts so short that their bum cheeks were clearly visible.

  1. I love this as I’m exactly the same lol I too would dress similar when I was younger too the under 18 clubs nites, n yes most likely for the attention it brings but for me I’ve never felt pretty hence it would give me a lot of confidence if someone seemed “attracted” however now I’m older well 23 im now the one that’s shocked as too what some are wearing lol although I think as long as u’ve got a good head on your shoulders n good parents how you dress shouldn’t represent how you act hope that makes sense x

  2. Well as I was one of those young girls who probably dressed inappropriately I can only say that its for attention. I found that when I wasn’t striving for some sort of attention I didn’t dress so provocatively. I was always rather insecure and I found I tried to compete to look the best or be the best with everyone around me. Subconsciously I mean. Now I dress for comfort and class – well most of the time ;-) xx

I would not be happy or impressed if when my daughter grows up she wanted to wear crap Like that… Yes women should be able to wear what they want but in this day and age it is a danger!!! Iv seen girls that dress like that and think they are at least 18 guess what they arnt!!!! They are under age!!! Some times I feel sorry for men go into a night club for over 18s not knowing that mist of them are minors it scares me….

  4. I was the same! I left nothing to the imagination! By God if any of my two girls even tried to go out wearing next to nothing, there is no way I would let them out! The thing is, that if these girls were all hatching a plan to say they were staying at each other’s house with the knowledge of a parent and taking the, as I call them, slut clothes, to the friends house then parents are none the wiser but that’s a story for a different day!
I’ve been out a few nights and the 15 year olds getting into clubs because they are doing “Favours” for a few of the bouncers is nothing short of a disgrace. They dont wear any underwear!!!!!! I was horrified the last time I was out and there was a girl passed out on the floor of the toilets with her skirt hiked up around her waist with no underwear on!!! I dont know why they’d do that! I always wore underwear going out!!! It is shocking that a parent would let a bunch of girls go unsupervised wearing next to nothing especially when it’s snowing!!!! These days you cant be too careful, there is always a story on the news about a young girl going missing, and with social networking as well, who knows who they dress up to meet.

  5. I don’t know why.. I’m so conservative that I don’t even let my toddler wear skirt! lol Mainly long pants to protect her knee if she fell or decided to tantrum on the floor!

i think most of us went through that stage of “dressing to impress” i couldnt imagen myself wearing somethibg like that now (apart fron the killer heels love shoes!!!) and if i ever had a daughter i wouldnt want her dressing like that. i do look at these youbg girls and wonder how there parents allow them to go out like that some girls as young as 14 wearing clothes that there bums are hanging out of!. x x

  7. It is sad, I have 2 girls who are 6 and 7 and they are quite naieve, they still wear appropriate clothing but its so hard to find, now matalan, george clothes are very teenager like and cant get anythin for their age. I will not make my kids look like teens

  8. I had a sheltered upbringing, so once I could wear what I wanted I dressed for attention. Short skirts, tight tops. I love men looking at me. At the time it makes you feel good. Now I’ve got a great husband and a little one, I dress for comfort most of the time.

the thought of my daughter dressing like that breaks my heart. When she is18 and I have no say then thats up to her but until then not a chance. Far too many girls putting themselves at risk from pervs sorry that sounds harsh but its true

  10. Deborah says:

i was always wearing heels from been 12 and even skirts i think its personal choice if they choice to wear that

  11. let me tell you, my mom was super-prude when it came to my clothes. no skirts above the knee. no spaghetti strap anything. no two-piece swimsuit. as soon as i was out of the house, of course i bought mini skirts, a bikini, strappy sundresses etc. i wasn’t raped in the streets, lol. mostly now i dress for comfort too. but chew on this: when i was 13, at a public pool, wearing a very modest one-piece swimsuit, a guy in his 20s hit on me, asked me out, asked if i wanted to go see his new car – my mom was AT THE POOL WITH ME! lol. so be warned – pervs will not be deterred by conservative dress and even parental supervision ;) what if she hadn’t been there? i’d like to think i’d be smart enough to stay away from a guy like that, regardless of my clothing choices, lets hope your own teen daughters would stay away from such a guy even if they think all the skimpy micro-minis and heels are to-die-for ;)
