While we all know the benefits of providing our kids with healthy and nutritious foods, is serving up home cooked meals daily something all parents should be doing?

I personally do cook more home made meals than buying in ready made or take away foods as home cooked meals tend to be more cheaper for us as we feed 8 at each sitting. We do have the everyday frozen vegetables and chips for easiness sometimes and the kids love burgers and hotdogs which we buy rather than make ourselves.

Preparing meals for a large family can be time consuming and cause arguments as not everyone likes the same foods, while some of my kids will tuck into their veggies others leave well alone. It is difficult to cook a meal that all 8 of us enjoy.

The cost of takeaway is one of the biggest factors to why we eat it only on the odd occasions.

The importance of home-cooked food, whether or not you are on a diet or a weight loss program, can never be overemphasized. For one, home-cooked food is definitely more nutritious and healthy than outside food as it is not produced on a mass scale, and more importantly, it is prepared by your family members, which further goes on to ensure 100% hygiene and wholesomeness. Moreover, home-cooked food is fresh, unlike restaurant food, where there are chances that you may be served food that has been sitting in a warmer a good part of the day. Street Directory Tells Us.

I do agree that home cooked food always tastes better and I do like to know what my children are eating.

  1. I do agree that home cooked food is always better, I prefer the taste and I’d much rather cook a meal than have a takeaway. But I do have things in the freezer, like fish fingers, waffles, frozen veg etc too. A healthy balance is always good :) xx

  2. I cook at home everyday. Extremely rare we have take aways unless they are bought for us. I’m not the best cook in the world and a lot is jars and packets but it helps me that I’m cooking it and I can put in and take out what I see fit. Doesnt help that I have one fussy eater! I mix in the frozen veg with the meat/fish that I’m cooking on that day. We do have the fish finger and chips days!

  3. I have been trying for the past year to really focus on cooking more at home rather than buying prepared meals or getting takeout food. It’s been a difficult change for me, since there is a lot of work involved but my family’s health is really important to me so it’s worth the effort.

I also have a large family, with 9 of us mealtimes rt chaotic, but , like u 9 times out of 10 I will make a home cooked meal. I am lucky tho because all the children and my oh will eat what eva is on their plate thank god lol! I do have the odd ocasion where they will eay ‘ prepared foods’ like hotdogs, burgeras, nugetts and chips etc, but they dnt seem 2 fill them up as much as a wholesome meal, so for me, ho£ecooked is deffinately a winner in our house :-)

  6. Since I stopped being SAHM, I couldn’t continue with home cooked food – not so much the time, but the cleaning. Glad that my parents are still helping to feed my tot home-cooked food, but then again, she’s easy.. just lots of steamed greens n she’ll be snacking on them!

  7. I prefer to cook home made meals but I do have a freezer full of stuff! Kids prefer food I cook myself like spag bol, roasts, chicken nuggets, shepherds pie, cottage pie etc :) Xx

They first time I gave Alexia a jar it was spat in my face, I then gave her some of mine to which she loved. I took that as a sign that she wanted what we had. We done BLW and and will highly recommend it. Anything that stains clothes that bad can’t be great x
