Three Relaxing Effects of Stress Relieving Tea
Simply saying that tea helps in reducing stress might be quite vague for those people who want to find out how tea actually affects the body. There are different types of tea for stress and they act on the body differently depending on the ingredients used. The following are the effects of tea as natural stress relievers for the body.
1. Muscle Relaxants
When the body receives much stress from work, there will be times that the person experience muscle tension and even muscle spasms. There are quite a lot of herbs that affect the body in calming the muscles. In order to make use of these herbs as natural stress relievers, they are made into herbal teas.
Some examples of herbal teas that are known to be very effective in calming the muscles include catnip tea, chamomile tea, and skullcap tea. Catnip and skullcap teas are best known as effective muscle relaxants against premenstrual cramping in women.
2. Increasing Mental Alertness
When a person is stressed out, it is difficult to think clearly. In times of stress, several different thought come into mind all at once, making the person have difficulty in focusing. Tea, as a natural stress relief, gives mental alertness a boost. One of the reasons is the caffeine content of tea. Another is the amino acid found in tea, especially in green tea, called L-theanine, which increases the brain wave activities.
3. Decreasing Blood Pressure
The cardiovascular health of the body is greatly affected in times of stress. Another way on how stress relieving tea becomes helpful is by decreasing the body’s blood pressure. According to studies, black tea, the traditional and classic tea preparation, helps in improving cardiovascular health by improving the flow of blood in the blood vessels, and decreasing blood pressure.
Other than being natural stress relievers, stress relieving teas also give people so many health benefits such as better immunity against bacterial and viral infections, decreased risk for certain diseases such as stroke, cancer and even snake poisoning.
