Lack of support for babies born sleeping: 4Louis

My name is Paul Taft (41) and I live in Cramlington, Northumberland. My journey with 4Louis began back in December 2009 when I heard the sad news of my boss’s (Bob McGurell) daughter, Kirsty Mcgurell lost her 1st child shortly before her due date. So she had to give birth to Louis as a sleeping angel. After what she had to go through and the little support that was out there for her Kirsty took it upon herself to set up the charity 4Louis. After speaking to Bob and hearing about Kirsty’s idea I felt compelled to help raise money for her worthwhile cause. I came up with an idea of doing a long distance walk and decided to speak to a close friend, Phil Barker about my idea and if he wanted to join me.
Phil Barker (34) lives in Tamworth, Staffordshire and decided to join my cause in memory of his niece Holly Gale who had passed away in October 2009 after only being here for 12 days. So Phil was happy to join the cause and between us we formed Walk4Louis. So after a few discussions with Phil we came up with the idea of walking from Sunderland Maternity Unit to SANDS Memorial Garden at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas nr Burton Upon Trent, a grand total of 191 mile. We would do this across 6 days. The challenge took alot of planning and preperation but in April 2010 with everything in place we were set on our way by Jordan Henderson (Liverpool FC) and David Meyler (Sunderland FC). 6 days later we arrived at the SANDS memorial garden a little worse for wear, I had been blighted with blisters and Phil had suffered with shin splints but we had made it. We had managed to raise £1000 between us.
After the success of our 1st walk this year we decided to take on another long distance walk and decided on doing a coast to coast walkbaby angel Lack of support for babies born sleeping: 4Louis from North Pier at Blackpool to Roker, Sunderland a total of 164 mile. With all the planning and preperation in place on the 20th May we set off from Blackpool. 9 days and 164 miles later we had our feet in the North Sea. This year we managed to raise a total of £4500.

We are now in the process of planning our 2012 walk and are looking to walk the Grand Union Canal from London to Tamworth also including walking around a number of sports stadiums on the 1st day of the walk. Next year we want to beat this years total and are looking to build our support base up ready for the challenge. We are looking for anyone who is willing to help with our planning and preperation for next years walk as we are looking to build up awareness in the south. Also anyone is welcome to come and join us and participate on any of the days of the walk. So if you would like to help or are thinking of participating you can come and show your support by joining us on twitter @walk4louis or on facebook walk forlouis.

So please come and join us and help raise awareness for this great charity that tackles a very little talked about subject.
