It is easy to assume that when you buy a family car you will be choosing between one bland, kid-friendly wagon and another equally uninteresting, boxy vehicle. Thankfully there are some innovative designers out there and you can still enjoy motoring in an attractive vehicle which is equally adept at swallowing the kids and all the other accoutrements of family life. Here are five of the best looking cars in this category on the market.
The new Grand Scenic is gorgeous from the front and rear, with intriguing angled lights, great curves and flexible seating arrangements in the rear, with practicality still of paramount importance. Keyless entry, Bluetooth connectivity and many more cool features make this a car that Renault is clearly aiming at parents with teenagers who will want to be ferried around with their mates or a bootload of band equipment, so it is great for families on the grow.
Chrysler PT Cruiser
This model may have been discontinued a couple of years ago but it now means you can get a solid example for a good price when you buy used. Its aggressive exterior styling and eminent coolness is able to overshadow virtually everything else on the road and while it may not be to all tastes the PT Cruiser is definitely something of a bruiser in the looks department.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
You may not have expected a powerful racer with rallying heritage to appear on this list, but despite its turbocharged performance and contemporary styling, the Lancer Evo X is every bit as practical as most modern family saloons when you get under the skin. A large boot, decent sized seats and head-turning bodywork on the outside. This is a boy toy for grown-ups with kids to think about.
Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer
This stretched Astra estate takes the already appealing looks of the standard hatchback and makes things even more family friendly. The SRi edition is definitely the one to go for, with its generous alloys and cheeky headlights. Of course it is practical and roomy on the inside but less costly than many full estates from other manufacturers.
Peugeot 508
Some would argue that the new Peugeot 508 is the best looking car on the market today. It continues a recent tradition from this manufacturer, taking an interesting route with its design choices so that the car is nothing like the vehicles you would expect from anyone else. The saloon is probably the king of handsome, but the estate version also packs a visual punch.

not everyone has a fortune to spend on these big-ass fancy family cars tho lol- we have a volvo V40 n its ace for us- tons of room in the back for a big My4 pram, a maclaren stroller AND enuff holiday stuff for 2adults and 3 kids (1 of whom is only 14weeks old!) including clothes, toys, coats, bags, bedding etc!! and the best bit- it only cost us £400 and the insurance is cheap as chips too
don’t drive but if I did this would be a brill post!X
I have a citroen picasso I HATE but when I lived in Lanza I had a opel vivaro 9 seater minibus and was and is my fave car, am savin for another one xxx
My personal choice out of the 5 would be the Grand Scenic. Those folding seats in the rear pull up and you got enough space for a teenager. The PT Cruiser’s turning circle is like a lorry!! Most people go for the bog standard looking Zafira’s and Galaxys so this article shows a refreshing change to standard family cars.
we have a vectra, and think its quite good, wasnt expensive, good on feul, and has a massive boot. only slight down side is the seats dip, and are lower then most other cars, not caused us any problems, but now our son is older he likes to look out the window, but cant see too much being low down!.
The prius should be in the top 5 cars as it is very eco friendly which is a very good thing for our modern climate.
My mum had the Renault grand scenic! Was brilliant, enough room to throw a party!!!! I have got a Renault megane & love it!! There’s enough room for me lo n my husband & it still looks nice! :0) xx
i have a peugeot 307 its big enough for my family xx
