Is societys pressure to blame for the riots ?

AAEH0015301 150x150 Is societys pressure to blame for the riots ?Like everyone I have watched the riots with utter dismay and contempt for those doing it. It was frightning that teenagers could rise up like that and be uncontrolled by the very people trying to protect us.I tried to listen to all sides of the spectrum as to why they chose this path and found myself agreeing that

they were just all idiots who took a chance and for them it paid off. But then one night while Manchester was being hit by rioters and having seen a ton of police racing towards the city centre I realised there had to be more to it than chance. Could society be putting too much pressure on these kids that its made them explode?.Pressure in schools to perform well and get a good education so that when you leave school there won’t be any jobs for you but still get the exams done well just incase .. pressure like my sons facing. At ten years old he’s expected to know exactly what he wants to be.

And he’s taking exams this year that for all their fancy talk boils down too how thick he is or isn’t that determines his next school. We have told him to do his best and we will be proud of him, but his teachers push and pushed him last year to be better to succeed and he struggled and felt a failure. This isn’t right. He’s ten.
Pressure to live up or live down a reputation teenagers have got. If you live in a rough area your not expected to achieve anything higher than a asbo. If you live in a upper area then its uni, and lawyer jobs. Pressure to right the world. Every generation blames the one before but with all these politicians and idiots on their soap boxes blaming all that’s wrong with the planet on the youth of today where’s there inspiration to be something? It’s in the gutter with everyone’s opinions of them.
Surely if kids are feeling that every day just like us adults there’s going to come a day when their brain says ENOUGH! And they rebel. They rebel against those who seek to belittle them, those who seek to blame them and paint them as the scourge of our society and take away their rights and sense of worth.
I’m not saying what they did was right, but maybe whilst they are being punished for their part in it all maybe others should be looking at their part in it all. Society itself took a role and by the looks of the damage and emotional upheaval just like at a opera at the end the fat lady didn’t just sing, she dam well went crazy!!

WOW this is a brilliant post. I never thought of that but yes society puts alot of stresses onto young children/adults and it’s not really on. I do believe it was wrong but maybe as you say others should look at their part especially the PM’s!! x

  2. I feel that the lack of discipline and respect these days plays a huge part in these type of anti-social behaviours. The parents are told what NOT to do with their own children-You can’t smack them. Teacher’s can’t really control children anymore. Who on earth can? The police? No-as we have seen. This awful situation shows that something is seriously wrong with the way these young people think and we,as a nation must address this and find a way of stopping anything like this happening again.

I agree in some aspects that socioty is to bame. We were pressurised at schoo and I was even told that I shouldnt bother going to uni because I will never make it this was by teachers. I made dam sure I proved them wrong, I went to college yes I found it hard but I made it, I went to uni and I passed. I also think in other aspects peer pressure also has some bame for a part in this too. Surely theres ways to get your point across rather than riots!!

  4. I actually kind of agree yes there is too much pressure on them etc, my daughter is 10 and is already dreading her sats causing sleepless nights for us etc. I also feel that as parents we are very aware of how we CAN’T discipline our children etc. I also feel that there are youths out there with the same sort of pressures yet they didn’t buckle and succumb to it. Is it because they weren’t ready to blow their tops or was it they still knew wrong from right. I do feel they have too much pressure on them but could of found more appropriate ways xx

I partly agree. Im disgusted by the riots and all the looting, I can’t believe such things happened in my own country. But I also agree that there is far too much pressure on young kids nowadays. The older generation are always quick to judge the ‘youth of today’ but I’m sorry, but the youth of today only follow by example. If the older generation were able to teach them right from wrong in the first place then the youth of today would have a better chance..

i agree that there is lots of pressure, more exams, and the future not really looking very good for them, everyone classing young ppl in the same group as ‘thugs’ ‘youths’ ‘yobs’ or what ever….. i think that is wrong, but at the end of the day, i dont think theres any excuse for what they did.

  7. My blog wasent about excusing them, its more about trying to understand their reasons. If we can’t understand them how can we hope to stop something like that happening again.?
I know some kids were in it for the loot, some just wanted to damage, but something sparked this, and untill we figure that out it could happen again.

  8. Love it..its not untill u actually sit back and look at the full picture u actual realise all this x

  9. in all honesty i think the riots started out in Tottenham about a group of people wanting to be heard but took it too far. What happen next was a group of mainly young people looking at what happened last Saturday and took advantage, knowing that the police couldnt do anything to stop them due to ‘human rights’. In my opinion it wasnt to do with the pressures they were/are under but more about grabbing what they could through mindless violence that shouldnt be excused. I find it quite ironic that as soon as the police are given the go ahead to use whatever means nessecery to bring them under control, the riots stop as quickly as they started.
