A ping is quite simply a sign that says – this site has new stuff on it. A notification that sends those search engines in your direction to crawl your blog.
I use WordPress and I use a plug in called Ping – o – matic, it automatically pings each new post I add.
I also use 2 other ping services (both free & very easy to use) which I will list here for you too, book mark them and each time you add a new post remember to go and ping your blog.
You write an amazing blog post, you set a tweet, maybe send it to Facebook too and hopefully you have already readLinkedIn for Bloggers – Are You Looking For Traffic? And you are sending a notification there too.
It is so simple to do and once you get in the hang of doing it, it just becomes natural and the best thing is, it really works, I have seen a huge increase in traffic coming from search engines since I learned about this and started to ping, Google in particular seems to like me, which is great.
So don’t forget to ping !

Yeah! And don’t forget to install a plugin that sets a minimum time between pings. Cause WordPress pings by standard every time he auto-saves a draft, which’ll get you to be listed as a spam-pinger.
Be aware of that!
