When I started blogging 4/5 months ago I really had no idea what I was letting myself in for. It started as a very small blog with 2/3 posts the first day, I spent time researching exactly what a blog was and what you were meant to do with one. I am one of these people who like to know the answers to everything. Nothing prepared me really for how work blogging really is.
I have read a large number of others blogs, some catch my eye and I visit again, some I skim my eyes over and leave. So what makes me stay and read?
I believe the one word that comes to mind when I think of what a great blogger is, is the word honesty. I would much rather read about how crap your day has been than how fabulous your life is. If I have had a bad day, which is pretty normal in my house at the moment, it is the six weeks school holiday remember, I do not want to read how fantasticly well behaved your kids are, I want to read about how you are pulling your hair out and verging towards a breakdown. In the aim of making me feel that little bit better about myself, I want to read others are suffering like me.
I do not want to always read the good parts, what about the bad parts too? I want to read the real life, genuine posts. I love honesty and can often relate to the blogger so much more. Being honest with yourself is very important when writing, as if you are telling a few fibs about how you are really feeling, I think this can show. Hiding those Mummy fails is a genuine mistake, own up, we all do them and we all feel so much better reading that others screw up too.
Never be afraid to write from the heart.
What makes a great blogger? Honesty

I wear my heart on my sleeve..I hold nothing back when I write my blogs for you! This is about real life after all, the good, the bad & the ugly! Sometimes it’s heartbreaking to read some, but they are so gipping you can’t stop..it’s just real life, what goes on behind closed doors & I get lost in so many..it’s really opened my eyes! I love your blog & I’m hooked & I love writing for you too xxx
I agree. The blogs I enjoy reading most are the ones that seem like the writer trusts you with their deepest darkest secrets as well as their moments of joy.

I like the sound of that, though it can be pretty hard to open up so much to the people who know you.
I have been looking for a ‘real’ mother’s blog. I think I will take more of a look round.
Indeed,I always believe honesty is the best policy and I adhere to this, even if it means my Blog doesn’t make for very interesting reading! Of course I could make up a load of tosh to entice people in but the truth would out in the end.
