A mum gives birth at home: Baby is grey

It was 2 days before my due date,  it all started as I went for my final antenatal check up.  I  started having the odd twinges and really had high blood pressure. They decided to take me to the ward untill my blood pressure came down,  by the evening it had so they sent me home . The next morning,  the day before my due date,  my midwife came round and noticed I had high blood pressure again. They sent me back to the deilvery ward were I stared having contractions.  Thinking this is it,  but after an hour it all stopped again, so they said they would keep me in over night.

My due date,  Friday 12 th June  and nothing.  I was very disappointed,  they sent me home again and I was absoutley fine.  The next day still feeling fine I went to bed but woke up early Sunday morning  about 4am feeling aches and period pains. I decided to have a bath but within 5 minuets  I had a big contraction surge threw my body. I  had to get out,  I got dressed, started gettin breakfast ready for my son.  As I did that my waters went wth a big gush and when I had seen the colour I knew my baby was in trouble.

I could feel the head as my partner at the time went to get my son dressed.  I put towels on the floor sat down and wthin one push she was out.  I grabbed her to see her lifeless and grey with the cord wrapped round her neck. I had to untangle it and rub her back and then she coughed to my relief.  I then put her to my chest to keep her warm while we waited for the ambulance. I will say I am so glad I got to do it,  it was lovely that I could deliver my own child.

  21. Kerrie Fish says:

What a scary experience! Childbirth is scary at the best of times, but to do it all by yourself and look after your baby yourself must have been terrifying. I take my hat off to you, I would probably have panicked in that situation! It was bad enough when my midwife had to untangle my baby’s cord, as it was wrapped around his neck twice. You are one brave woman! Well done you xxx
